Public for All: New Bill Seeks to End VIP Medical Privileges for State Officials
A new bill was tabled yesterday in Parliament seeking to mandate all State officials to use the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and receive treatment at public hospitals.
The proposal aims to cut taxpayer-funded medical perks and boost confidence in public healthcare.
If passed, the law would apply to elected leaders, Cabinet Secretaries, and senior officials ending the use of private insurance at government expense.
While critics question public hospitals’ capacity to handle such a shift, supporters argue that making leaders rely on public services will accelerate much-needed reforms.
