According to reports, the MP and his entourage had just left Parliament at around 7:00 p.m. on the fateful evening. The MP’s personal bodyguard stepped out during a brief stop to deposit Ksh. 20,000 at a nearby M-Pesa shop a move now considered a key moment in the unfolding tragedy.
CCTV Captures Suspicious Figure Near MP’s Car
During the bodyguard’s short absence, surveillance cameras on Wabera Street captured a suspicious hooded man carrying a backpack. He appeared to be monitoring the MP’s parked vehicle with calculated intent.
At 7:19 p.m., the MP, his driver, and the returning bodyguard left the area and proceeded toward Kenyatta Avenue, aiming to avoid peak-hour traffic by taking a detour via Ralph Bunche Road to Argwings Kodhek Road. However, they were unknowingly being followed.
Suspect Follows on Sports Bike
Investigators confirmed that the same hooded man was later spotted riding a sports motorbike, tailing the MP’s vehicle along Valley Road. When the traffic lights turned red at approximately 7:40 p.m., the assailant made his move.
Witnesses and camera footage show the gunman riding up to the vehicle and firing four close-range shots, shattering the window. The MP was hit in the chest and hand, and the attacker fled on the motorbike, vanishing into the Nairobi CBD.
Bodyguard Reacts Too Late
