Peter Salasya Bows to Pressure, Apologizes to Raila Odinga Vows to Visit Luo Nyanza in Presidential Campaign Tour

In a surprising turn of events, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has publicly apologized to ODM leader Raila Odinga following recent tensions sparked by his remarks perceived as disrespectful to the veteran opposition chief. The youthful legislator, known for his outspoken nature and rising political ambitions, has bowed to public and political pressure, acknowledging the stature and influence of Raila Odinga in the national political landscape.
Speaking during a media briefing, Salasya expressed regret over the remarks that stirred backlash, particularly from Raila’s loyal support base in Luo Nyanza. “I have a lot of respect for Baba [Raila Odinga]. If anything I said seemed disrespectful or was taken out of context, I sincerely apologize. He has played a major role in shaping this country’s democracy, and that must be acknowledged,” said Salasya.
The apology comes amid speculation about Salasya’s intentions to build a national political profile ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the MP now declaring his plan to traverse Luo Nyanza counties as part of his early presidential campaigns.
“I want to engage with all Kenyans across the country. I will be visiting Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, and other parts of Luo Nyanza to connect with the people directly, listen to their issues, and share my vision,” Salasya added.
His move has sparked mixed reactions. While some view it as a commendable step toward unity and respect across political lines, others remain skeptical of his motives, viewing the apology as a calculated political move rather than a genuine gesture.
Salasya’s rising prominence among younger voters and his bold stance on national issues have made him a politician to watch, even as critics caution him to tread carefully in the complex and historically rooted dynamics of Kenyan politics.
Whether this marks the beginning of a broader national acceptance for Salasya’s presidential ambitions remains to be seen. But for now, his olive branch to Raila Odinga and his planned visit to Luo Nyanza signal a new chapter in his evolving political journey.
