Notify Police Of Your Movements,” National Police Service Responds To Gachagua’s Letter

“Notify Police Of Your Movements,” National Police Service Responds To Gachagua’s Letter

The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has asked former Rigathi Gachagua to notify the police of his movements to allow officers to plan his security hours after the former DP’s letter explaining why his life is in danger.

In a statement on Tuesday, the National Police Service has also assured the country that the security remains stable, insisting that there were proactive measures in place to prevent rogue activities.

“In light of Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures and notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements,” the NPS said in a statement.

The NPS added: “As a service, we remain apolitical and steadfast in proactively deploying intelligence-led measures to preempt and respond to security threats through multi-agency approaches, while strictly upholding the rule of law and human rights.”

Dated Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the letter titled ‘Assassination Attempts and Violence Against My Life’, posted on the former DP’s social media handles, points out various instances where he claimed he was targeted.

According to Gachagua, on November 28, 2024, while attending a funeral in Limuru, he was attacked and his vehicle was destroyed. He wondered why action had not been taken against the perpetrators.

He went on to claim that on December 28, 2024, in Shamata, Nyandarua County, a teargas canister was lobbed at a function he attended, and the person behind it was apprehended. He again wondered why the said person, whom he claimed was a police officer, was not disciplined.

Further, Gachagua informed the IG that his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, was compelled to scamper for safety after a rowdy group stormed a prayer meeting she had organised. Gachagua claimed that to date, no action had been taken.
