Body by Design Kenya Faces Backlash Over Unauthorized Cosmetic Surgeries Following Patient’s Death

Body by Design Kenya, a facility known for cosmetic procedures, is under scrutiny for lacking licenses to perform surgeries.

Registered as a beauty spa, it has advertised procedures like liposuction and Brazilian Butt Lift without proper certification.

Investigations have intensified after the death of Lucy Wambui Ng’anga, allegedly due to complications from surgery at the facility.

Body by Design Kenya, a facility marketed for its cosmetic procedures, is facing serious allegations after it was revealed that it was never licensed to conduct plastic or cosmetic surgeries. Official documents indicate that the facility, which operates under the name Omnicare Medical Limited and was registered as a beauty spa in 2022, is authorized only as a Level IV counseling center. It lacks certification for various surgical procedures it has been promoting, including liposuction, Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL), and breast lifts.

This scrutiny follows the tragic death of Lucy Wambui Ng’anga, who died shortly after undergoing surgery at Body by Design. Investigators are currently looking into the circumstances of her death, with her husband claiming that staff at the facility dismissed his concerns about her severe symptoms as part of the “healing process.” It was later revealed that Lucy’s condition stemmed from intestinal perforations caused by the procedure, leading to bowel leakage into her internal organs.

In response to the closure of the facility, its owners have initiated legal action, arguing that Lucy’s pre-existing respiratory and chest issues contributed to her complications rather than the surgery itself. However, an autopsy report from a government pathologist has attributed her death directly to surgical perforations, raising further questions about the facility’s practices and the oversight of cosmetic procedures in Kenya.

The ongoing investigations highlight the critical need for regulatory compliance in the cosmetic surgery industry to ensure patient safety and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
