Kenya’s political battlefield is already buzzing with early projections for the 2027 presidential election, and the numbers reveal a tight, unpredictable race. President William Ruto remains in pole position, but the unexpected rise of Kalonzo Musyoka is turning heads across the country.

According to the latest projections, Ruto currently enjoys 38% to 42% of national support. His stronghold in Rift Valley and parts of Western Kenya remains loyal, but cracks are beginning to show.

The Mount Kenya region, once a reliable base, is showing signs of rebellion, fueled in part by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s internal dissent and economic frustrations.

Surging behind him is Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, polling between 22% and 27%. This marks a dramatic shift in his political fortunes.

Kalonzo’s decision to declare an independent presidential run without waiting for Raila Odinga’s blessing has rebranded him as a determined and serious contender. He’s gaining traction in Central Kenya and appealing to voters tired of the long-standing Ruto-Raila rivalry.

Raila Odinga, while still influential, trails with 15% to 20% support. Though dominant in Nyanza, Coast, and parts of Nairobi, his likely focus on the African Union job and lack of clarity about a 2027 bid have left his political base in limbo.

Should he step aside, his endorsement could dramatically tip the balance most likely benefiting either Kalonzo or Ruto.

Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i comes in fourth, polling at 5% to 8%. While respected among urban and professional voters, his long absence from active politics leaves his 2027 prospects shaky.

Smaller parties and emerging figures account for 5% to 10% but are expected to merge into larger coalitions or drop out entirely as the race intensifies.

With no candidate poised to cross the 50%+1 threshold, Kenya could be headed for its first-ever presidential runoff a potential political milestone.
