Nairobi DCI Officer Arrested after Two Kisumu Women Brandish Gun on WhatsApp Status
A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer in Starehe, Nairobi, has been arrested after two women in Kisumu County were found in possession of a firearm whose photo was posted on WhatsApp.
Sharon Auma, one of the two women, uploaded a photo of herself flashing a Canik pistol, warning that any man who dared to dump her would face serious consequences.
The post quickly caught the attention of detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in Nyanza, who, along with officers from DCI Nyando, launched an investigation leading to the arrest of the culprits.
“The arrest follows a report received of Sharon Auma, who decided to spice up her WhatsApp status, posting a photo of herself brandishing a pistol while ominously warning that any man who dared dump her would face severe consequences,” the DCI reported.
Upon questioning, she led the officers to a rented two-bedroom house belonging to her friend and alleged accomplice, Nancy Atieno Obura.
After interrogations behind bars, the two suspects claimed that the pistol belonged to a DCI officer who was on duty in Nairobi at the time, prompting investigators to locate and arrest the officer, who was later transported to Nyando for further questioning.
Authorities are working to trace the origin of the firearm and determine if it has been used in any criminal activities.
Police say the case is being treated as an isolated incident and should not reflect on the integrity of the broader service.
