Sudan, Somali, Somaliland Reject US-Israel Push to Resettle Palestinians in their Territories
Sudan, Somalia, and Somaliland have rejected the United States (US) and Israel invitation to discuss the relocating Palestinians from Gaza as part of a proposed postwar plan.Sudanese officials said they rejected the proposal by the United States, and officials from Somalia and Somaliland said they were unaware of any contacts, AP reported.
Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi said his country would categorically reject “any proposal or initiative, from any party, that would undermine the Palestinian people’s right to live peacefully on their ancestral land”.
He told reporters that Somalia’s government had not received any such proposal and that his country was against any plan that would involve the use of their territory for the resettlement of other populations.The U.S. and Israel had reached out to officials of the three East African countries to discuss using their territories as potential destinations for Palestinians displaced from the Gaza Strip.
Even though Arab leaders have adopted a $53 billion Egyptian reconstruction plan for Gaza that would avoid displacing Palestinians, US President Donald Trump has a vision of a Middle East Riviera that will see the U.S. takeover of the Gaza Strip for real estate development.
