Former Assistant Minister Danson Mungatana has accused Kenya’s former Head of State, His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, of being a central figure in a mega dollar scandal that purportedly contributed to the depreciation of the Kenyan Shilling against the United States Dollar.
During an exclusive interview with Citizen TV Kenya on November 23, 2023, Mungatana addressed the concerning issue of the weakening Kenyan Shilling.

He alleged that Uhuru Kenyatta played a pivotal role during his tenure as the Head of State by strategically selling US Dollars in the open market, ostensibly to stabilize the value of the Kenyan Shilling.
In a claim that lacks substantiation, Mungatana went further, suggesting that a significant portion—60 per cent—of the funds used to support the Kenyan Shilling allegedly found its way into Uhuru Kenyatta’s private enterprises.
The former Assistant Minister asserted, “Uhuru Kenyatta should just remain silent because it is not necessary for him to engage at this level.
Nobody was talking about him. Just look at the media, nobody was talking about Uhuru.
When he came up is when now people reminded him that he sold the dollars in the open market, and 60 per cent of that money that was used to stabilize the Kenyan currency allegedly went to his private firms,” revealing the intensity of the allegations.
The implications of these accusations are far-reaching, as they raise questions about the financial management practices during Kenyatta’s presidency.
The alleged involvement of the former Head of State in the currency stabilization process, coupled with the claim of diverting funds to personal ventures, demands a thorough investigation into the veracity of these assertions.
The Kenyan Shilling’s depreciation against the US Dollar has been a matter of concern for citizens and policymakers alike.
Mungatana’s accusations, if proven true, could significantly impact public perception of Kenyatta’s legacy and could have legal ramifications.
As the news unfolds, citizens and stakeholders await responses from both Uhuru Kenyatta and relevant authorities.
The gravity of these allegations necessitates a transparent and impartial investigation to either confirm or refute the claims made by Danson Mungatana, shedding light on the intricacies of the alleged mega dollar scandal that has shaken the political landscape in Kenya.
