Waihiga Mwaura, who anchored the news on Citizen TV for an astonishing fourteen years, has left the network. The media icon was recently honored upon his departure from the TV network.
Waihiga was filmed admiring the station’s hall of Fame in a touching video he posted to Instagram. A look of surprise and pride spread across his face as he paused to take in the sight of his own portrait prominently displayed on the hall of fame.

Before Waihiga left, however, Citizen TV played some of his old footage from when he was a young journalist.
After 14 years, Waihiga resigned from the TV station owned by Royal Media Services. Waihiga exclaimed, “Oh my Goodness,” upon realizing 14 years had passed.
Waihiga’s departure from Citizen TV has been met with open arms at BBC. On May 3, 2023, he is slated to begin his new role as host of BBC’s Focus on Africa.
Joyce Omondi of Citizen TV gave her husband, Waihiga Mwaura, a touching speech before his final newscast.
In awe of you. Joyce Omondi tells her husband, Waihiga Mwaura, on his last day at Citizen TV, “I want to be like you one day when I grow up.”
You have amazing skills and put forth a lot of effort. I’m aware of how long you’ve been working. I praise God for allowing us to help you in this way. Put simply, you have my heart. Joyce Omondi continued, “I will always be cheering you as your number one fan.”
They worked together at Citizen TV where they eventually became friends and ultimately married.
Waihiga was shocked by Trevor Ombijah and the rest of the citizen TV during the newscaster’s farewell bulletin.
