Airtel’s new 5G mobile broadband service will be made available in affluent communities because, for company reasons, these areas already have the technology and disposable means to take advantage of the improved connectivity.

When compared to the already available 4G technology, the new technology is lightning quick. However, it’s still out of reach for the vast majority due to the high cost of both the devices and the data they use. On the whole, I think 5G will be beneficial in the next few years. For the time being, we’ll keep working to increase our 4G coverage while also launching 5G selectively in affluent areas.

Several telecommunications companies across the continent are owned and operated by Airtel Africa, the parent company. Airtel Kenya is one such company. According to Mr. Ogunsanya, ” where we recognize enough devices and enough purchasing power to fully experience the benefits of 5G, ” is where the multinational would launch 5G in the markets where it has bought spectrum.

Safaricom, the pioneer in launching 5G services, has focused site deployment in areas with a large percentage of affluent and middle-class customers. Kileleshwa, Muthaiga, Karen, Lavington, Two Rivers Mall, and Greensteds International School in Nakuru are just some of the places you can find in Nairobi.

The telecommunications industry anticipates a lengthy migration away from 4G technology. The vast majority of consumers cannot buy 5G- ready phones because their prices range from Sh25, 000 to above Sh150, 000.

Apple and Samsung products, as well as others in the high-end category, are included. Safaricom’s 5G services started with initial deals from Sh3, 499 to Sh14, 999 per month, depending on speed and data consumption.

It is expected that by 2029 the bulk of mobile connections in Kenya will be 5G, and our network towers are ready for this development. Safaricom announced in its annual report for the fiscal year ending in March 2022 that it intends to increase the number of 5G sites to more than 200 by the end of the following calendar year, with these new locations spread across nine cities.
