Due to economic uncertainty, most Kenyans cannot afford to visit a doctor regularly. Health insurance in Kenya is administered by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). Furthermore, it is mandated to ensure that all Kenyans have access to health care that meets their needs without breaking the bank. To make sure that every Kenyan was protected, NHIF established NHIF Cover limitations.
Members of the national assembly have returned to the topic of a national health insurance fund on multiple occasions. Over ten billion shillings are stolen by cartels every year, making it one of the most corrupt government agencies.
Patrick Munene, an outspoken lawmaker, has shared his views on the insurance pool. He has exposed the fund as fraudulent, saying that there have been numerous corruption scandals in the industry, to which billions of dollars have been donated by Kenyans.
He continued by saying that the cancer fund should be established as it is a huge expense in the healthcare industry. Since we have a lot of money sitting around doing nothing, he was quick to point out that this would prevent its misappropriation through corrupt dealings.
Before raising funds, he encouraged the government to alter the scheme’s fundamental approach and hire better managers. Trust will be restored and more Kenyans will join the scheme if this happens.
He stressed the importance of recruiting all government employees and legislators to the scheme to increase its chances of success and hence its ability to raise more money. He stressed that certain government officials had spent millions of dollars hiring private companies.
