This has been a banner year for Kenyan athletes, who have carried the country’s name and reputation to new heights.
Almost all of them have proven themselves capable of winning long-distance races, with names like Eliud Kipchoge and Vivian Cheruiyot being particularly well-known in this arena.
Irene Kemunto Mogaka, another famous marathon runner, is facing chest difficulties she acquired throughout her career at the age of 37.She says that despite her stellar reputation, she has been unable to make ends meet.
Kemunto competed for his country in international events in Austria and Viena, international events in Mumbai, India, and domestic races.
Kemunto describes winning $20,000 in a lottery when she was younger but has yet to get the money. In Kenyan shillings, that comes out to around $2.4 million.
For the sake of keeping the national flag flying high, she is pleading with the government to get her life back on track. She discussed the difficulties that athletes endure in their everyday lives.
Her despair is exacerbated by the fact that most of them are obligated to financially support their families. They owe millions to their customers but are notoriously late with payments. We hope she gets well soon!
