William Ruto again promises to make phone calls, internet free if elected president.

Kenya Kwanza Alliance Presidential candidate William Ruto is now promising that if elected President in the upcoming August elections Kenyans will be making free phone calls and surfing the internet without incurring any charges.

Promising on Wednesday during the launch of Kiambu County Hustler fund, the Kenya Kwanza coalition flag bearer said that to curb the rising cost of internet and to facilitate business which highly depends on communication, every household would have access to free data.

“Watu wengi wanahangaika na bundles…pale sokoni, kupiga simu hautahitaji bundles, kwa sababu vile tunatengeneza barabara ya kupeleka mali yetu, lazima tuwe na barabara digital ya serikali ili usilipishwe kutumia barabara, unalipishwa kile kitu umenunua,” Ruto said. “Biashara katika masoko yenu, simu utakuwa unapiga free of charge, simu haitakuwa inakatika kwa sababu sasa tutakuwa tumedeploy internet.”

William Ruto said the internet connectivity program would be done the way the Jubilee government has implemented the Last Mile Connectivity Program which aims at universal access to electricity by 2022.

“The same way we implemented the last mile of electricity, now we will do a last mile of internet. Tutatumia kila nyumba, kila soko, kila shule mahali kuna stima ya grind pia sasa tutaweka last mile,” he explained. Ruto went on to woo voters saying that his Kenya Kwanza-led outfit had dealt with the technicalities of the implementation of the internet project which he said would cost about Ksh 38 billion. “We have done the arithmetic of the programme and we will require about Ksh.38 billion, to enable us to push the internet to every household,” he said.

United Democratic Alliance Party Leader explained that the programme would be meant to facilitate business transactions among the young and the elderly and cut the burden of rising costs of internet tariffs across different telecommunication networks.

“Hustlers Fund is wholesome, it will cater for the business people, mama mboga, Boda Boda, those in start-up businesses so that we unite the youth, women and everyone so that we move forward,” he added
