On Saturday, February 26, 2022, ODM leader Raila Odinga declared that President Uhuru Kenyatta is a founder member of his Orange Democratic Party

At the ODM National Delegates Conference, the presidential candidate declared that Uhuru was one of the founding members of the political party.
Raila said that he joined Uhuru in the ‘NO’ side, whose emblem was an orange, in 2005, when Kibaki’s government was pressing for constitutional revisions through a referendum.
“Uhuru is a founding member of ODM. We were with him when the Orange team faced off with the Banana team in the 2005 referendum. He stuck with us in the Orange camp despite his backyard being a Banana zone. He remained steadfast and together we won the referendum,” Raila narrated amid cheers from the ODM delegates.
The former premier went on to say that the Head of State would later be forced to abandon ODM ahead of the 2007 General Elections, presumably to avoid political Oblivion.
I advised him to return to KANU because he would have flopped if he ran for office on an ODM ticket in a region where our party was unpopular,” Raila added.
The presidential candidate, who is now backed by President Uhuru in his sixth bid for the presidency, went on to explain how they have maintained a professional relationship despite competing in successive presidential elections.
