In 1976,Ugandan President Al-Haji Field Marshal Idi Amin Dada attempted to redraw the boundaries of Kenya and Uganda. Amin wanted back all Kenyan districts that were part of Uganda before the colonial re-demarcation of the territorial boundaries.

These included Turkana, part of Lake Rudolf (now lake Turkana,West Pokot,Tran-Nzoia, Bungoma,Busia, Kakamega, Central Nyanza, South Nyanza,Narok,Kisii,Kericho, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu,Elgeyo Marakwet,Nyandarua,Nandi, Kisumu, Eldoret,Tambach,Kambi ya Moto,Maji Mazuri,Gilgil Nakuru,Lake Baringo and Naivasha.

He claimed that these areas were very fertile and produced nearly all the wealth in Kenya.

He only backed down only when President Jomo Kenyatta threatened to block Uganda’s imports through the port of Mombasa. This photo shows Kenyan protestors who were loyal to Kenya and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and were ready to fight Idi Amin.

The tension became high between Jomo and Amin. Jomo was breathing fire. At the barracks soldiers were preparing for war against Uganda.

During that time one of those days full of tension it’s said that Jomo was told by Iddi Amin that at a given time in the afternoon he would address the people of Kisumu and he will march on to Naivasha. So this made that he would pass through Kakamega on his way to Kisumu.

People in Kakamega became worried as Iddi Amin was really feared in East African region. People in Kakamega assembled in what’s currently known as Muliro gardens so that they could see the feared man of Uganda and also feared that according to this threats he was their new leader.

As they were waiting for him,in a nearby shop a young kid whereby today he must be a fossil he was drinking milk bought from the shop. As a kid as usual after drinking you would fill the pocket with air and step on it to cause an explosive sound.

That boy did the same thing after finishing the whole milk from the packet and stepped on it at the street PAAAH. When tensed people heard that they knew now Iddi Amin has arrived.

The high tension made people in town to panic and ran for his life. The town was out of order.
