Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick, speaking to MOTD: “I think we played a fantastic first half, couldn’t have played any better. We scored three goals, the second that was disallowed I cannot understand. It was a very, very soft decision by the linesman. He flagged the foul five or six seconds after it took pace.
“Anyway it was 1-0 at half time, we knew they would come out in the second half in a more aggressive way and the only thing I can complain the team about was we were not aggressive enough in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
“If you look into the whole game we dominated for most of it. Winning one point is not enough and another frustrating again.
“It really surprised me he flagged when the ball was in the ne. Had he really seen the foul? The first I can understand why it was disallowed, it was a hard one, but the second I cannot understand.
“[In the second half] We were playing tiki taka football in our own half and not direct enough. We had the counter attack but gave the ball away too easily in their box.”
Need to find consistency? “Yes, but under normal circumstances we should have been two or three up at half time. It should have been more than 1-0. Today we scored three goals, I cannot blame the team for not scoring.”
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick: “We scored three goals! That is different to Friday. The second one that was disallowed, the linesman flagged foul but 10 seconds after that incident. This was a very soft decision I must say.
“Again we played an excellent first half. We controlled and dominated the game. We scored the three goals but two were disallowed.
“In the second half we were not aggressive enough. It was clear they would come out and be aggressive. The way we allowed them to score, we didn’t defend the whole situation.
“A frustrating night for us because we should have won that game comfortably.
“We scored three goals in the first half so I couldn’t blame the team for not having a killer instinct in the first half.
“In the end it was also a little question of luck. One point for a performance like this is just not enough.”
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, speaking to updatedmailSport: “I think you saw the first half. We had control. We have got to win the game with the amount of chances we created. We had to get that second goal. Two points dropped.
“We wanted to dominate the game but for sure when you come to Burnley away you are not going to dominate for 90 minutes. We had to see iit out better. We conceded like against Middlesbrough when they had that spell of pressure. We have got to be that bit more clinical.
“It was a disappointing goal on our behalf to concede. We came out in the second half a bit sloppy. We had long enough in the game to come back from that and try and find the winner.
“We demand on ourselves to win the football match so it is disappointing.”
On Varane goal being disallowed: “I think he gave it offside. He said it wasn’t a foul. Interfering with pay, I don’t know. I don’t think Rodriguez would have been affecting the goal. I think the other one for Paul Pogba’s judged to have fouled. It was definitely not a foul.”
Everton manager Frank Lampard speaking to Match of the Day: “It’s disappointing for the result. It was a tough game to have as we have only been together for a week.
“There were some positives to take, we had some good moments with the front three in the first half, but then we lost two big players in Demarai Gray and Yerry Mina and things changed.
“The main thing for me was how we dropped off in the game.
“At the weekend we had a positive result and the confidence went up but you could see how quickly that confidence went back down.
“The circumstances were difficult – to lose two big players made it tough.
“I have seen a lot of people put a lot on this game and we need to not let our heads drop. The work starts now.
“The players have to believe in what we are doing. The way of playing hasn’t worked so far this season, that’s why I am here.
“The confidence and belief has to be built and worked on the training ground. We are here a short time and it needs to change quickly because we want to get results.”
Watford striker Joshua King, speaking to BT Sport: “It was a tough game. We defended so well and could have grabbed something. I can see that we are improving. It started off last week. We lost in the last 10 minutes and we need to focus on Saturday now.
“Our last game against Burnley was our first clean sheet of the season and that isn’t good enough. It was trying to do the same again here. It is always tough coming here. They have talented players and they know their structure. We felt we should have left here with at least a point.
“The last two game shave been positive since Roy took over. It has been an uplift. We lost today and we know we have a big job with 16 games left. We have a good squad. We have the fight and the players to keep ourselves safe. It is going to be tough. There are five teams battling for it and only three go down.”
