English giants Liverpool and Manchester City continued with their fine record in the champions league last night after defeating Benfica and Atletico Madrid respectively.

Liverpoolwere away in Lisbon but lacked the visitor’s manners when they smashed their hosts by 3-1 shoreline. By halftime the Reds were leading by two goals from Ibrahima Konate which was his first goal for the Reds and a second goal from Sadio Mane. Darwin Nunez scored the consolation goal for the home team just after the break but their hopes of a comeback were cut short after Luiz Diaz scored the third to silence the fans booing him.
Manchester City had a tough time against the Spanish giants as they were too defensive for the Pep students to open them up. The citizens tried every way but luck was against them until the 68′ minute when their saviour Phil Foden was subbed in. Just seventy eight seconds into the game he provided the assist for the winning goal by Kelvin De Bruyne. City had much of the ball having a possession of 70%. The visitors recorded zero shots on goal and off goal.
The return legs will be played next week with City traveling to Spain and Liverpool hosting Benfica at Anfield.
