Tonight the champions league enters the last eight level with two fixtures scheduled. Manchester City will face Spanish giants Atletico Madrid at the Etihad stadium while Liverpool will be traveling to Portugal to face Benfica. Man City edged out Sporting Lisbon while Atletico defeated Manchester United in the round of sixteen. Benfica and Liverpool beat Ajax and Inter Milan respectively to reach the stage.

This is City’s fifth successive appearance at this stage and will be the first time the two coaches are meeting in the champions league. Simeone’s men will be bidding to become the first side to defeat both City and United in the knockout stages of a European competition in the same season since 1977 when it happened against Juventus in the UEFA cup.
Liverpool have reached this stage the third time in the last four years. Liverpool defeated Porto from Portugal by five goals and this will be a boost as they play in the same country against Benfica.
