He had already begun operating a dairy farm with his parents’ assistance by the time he received his degree.

In the morning, Chui earns between Ksh 6,480 and Ksh 7,560, and in the evening, he earns between Ksh 2,000 and Ksh 3,250.

When a university graduate revealed how much money he makes from dairy farming at a time when young people in Kenya are struggling with unemployment, many people were shocked.

Gordon Chui, 28, graduated with a diploma in animal health and production from Chuka University in 2018 and instead of looking for a career, he chose to pursue his passion for farming.

He had already begun operating a dairy farm with his parents’ assistance by the time he received his degree.

“I began dairy farming in 2015 when I was still in college, but I really got into it after school in 2018. I love cows in addition to running it as a company. I became close to cows.

“I entered the farming industry right away after graduating. My parents were encouraging and gave me two cows to start with: an Ayrshire and a Friesian, Chui told TUKO.

Chui presently has 13 cows in her herd, including four heifers, three dry cows, and six milking cows. At Brookside, Mt. Kenya Milk, and Meru Central dairies, the young man sells his produce.

“With 10 cows, I produced 257 liters at my peak. Due to three cows being dry, I am currently producing 155–175 liters per day.

“In the morning, I sell 120 to 140 liters of milk to Brookside for Ksh 54 a liter. I sell 40 to 65 liters of gasoline to Mt. Kenya or Meru Central in the evening for Ksh 50, he claimed.

In the morning, Chui earns between Ksh 6,480 and Ksh 7,560, and in the evening, he earns between Ksh 2,000 and Ksh 3,250.
