Abel Mutua, a filmmaker, has spoken out about financial literacy and how he and his wife, Judy Nyawira, plan to manage their finances in 2020.

The two, who met in 2008, admitted they were winging it with money and that they wouldn’t have any money in the bank until 2020.
Abel stated in a Q&A interview on the Joy Ride Podcast that they both made money but could not account for what they did with it.
“We have fumbled with finances for a decade, hiyo hata hatutadanganya. We got financial literacy in 2020. That’s the first time mshahara yangu imekutana na mshahara ingine. The worst bit ni ati I can’t sit here and lie ati we never used to make money, we made money. Sisi tuliingia Citizen TV when I was still in college, nilikuwa 21,” he said.
Abel, who was then a cast member on the popular local show Tahidi High, explained that there were numerous benefits to being on the show.
“I don’t know hio pesa ilikuwa inaenda wapi. One problem that we had was the Messianic complex where you feel like you want to save everyone. You get like KSh 200,000 and in less than three weeks imeisha,” he said.
The actor stated that he and his wife completed a short course that assisted them in getting their finances in order.
He also mentioned that he met his wife in college through a bet after his friends said Judy was difficult, so he made a bet with them to prove himself.
When asked if he wanted his wife to remarry if he died, he replied:

“Ni kitu tushaidiscuss, nikamshow please move on juu usiake hapo ukiniomboleza na mimi nishamaliza kazi yangu hapa, imagine move on. Kama kuna mjamaa huko anakufinyia finyia macho, aiii, kwani ni kesho,” he said.
