The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has uncovered a shocking case of theft involving eight police officers in Kisumu County. The officers, all attached to Maseno Police Station, were arrested on Monday, September 22, after being linked to the disappearance of a Toyota Land Cruiser V8.
Prado Disappears from Police Station Yard
According to a police report filed at Kisumu Central Police Station, the luxury vehicle, registration number KDL 366N, vanished from the Maseno Police Station yard on September 16, 2025. The disappearance raised red flags, prompting detectives from DCI headquarters in Nairobi to team up with Kisumu County officers in launching a full-scale probe.
The officers were taken into custody at 3:05 a.m. on September 22 and booked at Kisumu Central Police Station. The arrest was directly tied to the loss of the vehicle, which had been under official custody since September 16 (OB number 15/16/09/2025, logged at 10:50 a.m.).
Vehicle Had Been Recovered Before
Investigations further revealed that the same vehicle had previously been recovered at Maseno Shopping Centre after being abandoned. It was later returned to the station yard, only to disappear again under unclear circumstances.
Records show that this earlier recovery was entered into the occurrence book under OB number 46/10/09/2025 at 5:27 p.m.
