A Nigerian lawyer, Chisom Agbafor, has sparked conversation on social media with a blunt take on the harsh realities behind many modern marriages.

In a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), Chisom revealed that her experience handling numerous divorce cases in Lagos has shown many couples live in sexless, affectionless, and emotionally bankrupt unions.
“As a lawyer in Lagos, I have been involved in enough divorce cases to say this without blinking: There are a lot of couples who are in sexless, affectionless, emotionally bankrupt marriages,” she wrote.
She further expressed concern about how common it is to hear heartbreaking statements like, “He hasn’t touched me in 2 years.” Chisom described such revelations as “really unsettling,” drawing attention to the emotional and physical disconnect that often goes unnoticed behind closed doors.

The post has however attracted reactions from the public. One user “Street lawyer,” responded, highlighting how “accidental marriages” often occur when couples rush into wedlock due to unplanned pregnancies without truly knowing each other.
Chisom acknowledged this, stating “Exactly, it’s getting too much. Don’t really comprehend. Why get married at first?”
Another user, Chikadibia, added to the discourse, sharing a personal account,
“I know a lady her husband has not touched in six years.
Well, there are more comments validating what Chisom earlier pointed out, and it has become increasingly clear that many unions lack emotional availability and genuine connection.
