Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata Implicated in Alleged Compensation Fraud Linked to 2019 Ethiopian Airlines Crash

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata is under intense public scrutiny following a bombshell exposé by NTV, which implicates him in a high-profile compensation fraud scandal tied to the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 tragedy.
The crash, which occurred on March 10, 2019, claimed the lives of all 157 people on board, including 32 Kenyans. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft went down near Bishoftu, Ethiopia, just six minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa en route to Nairobi.
According to the investigative report, Kang’ata is accused of forging death certificates and fraudulently presenting them as those of victims of the ET302 crash. These counterfeit documents were allegedly used to unlawfully claim millions of dollars in compensation intended for the families of the actual victims.
Even more troubling, the individuals listed as next of kin were reportedly staff members from Kang’ata’s Senate office at the time.
If proven true, these allegations would represent a grave breach of public trust and a shocking exploitation of a global tragedy for personal enrichment. Legal experts and civil society organizations are calling for a thorough and impartial investigation. They have urged both local and international authorities—including Boeing and the Ethiopian government—to assist in uncovering the full scope of the alleged fraud.
The scandal has sparked widespread outrage among Kenyans, particularly the bereaved families who continue to seek justice and closure. As of now, Governor Kang’ata has not issued a detailed public statement in response to the accusations.
As investigations progress, the nation is watching closely, demanding accountability, transparency, and justice for the victims and their families.
