Nigeria has shipped its first exports under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.

Where are the goods destined for ? Kenya. And they include oriental rugs and carpets manufactured by Lucky Fibres of Lagos.
In the photo Nigerian customs officials are seen verifying the documents before the goods left for the port of Mombasa.
African countries manufacture less despite having plenty of raw material, rarely trade amongst themselves but import more from countries outside the continent.
This has made the continent less competitive in the global economy.
These are some of the issues the the AfCFTA seeks to address by removing unnecessary barriers to intra-African trade, capital and labor.
Doing so will make African competitive on the global stage, help boost socioeconomic development and to alleviate poverty. If we can get oriental rugs and carpets from Nigeria why get them from China? Buy Africa build Africa.
