Marriage is a legally recognized union between two individuals, typically based on mutual love, commitment, and often accompanied by a ceremony or celebration.
A woman from Mombasa, in a video posted on Spmbuzzke’s Instagram, urged the government to offer prison accommodations allowing conjugal visits.
She expressed that denying inmates access to such rights is inhumane, highlighting the challenge of enduring long sentences without this basic need.
She emphasized the difficulty both men and women face, especially over extended periods of incarceration.
“For instance, a man who gets jailed for five years; by the time he is getting released his wife will have left him and he will be at a loso of how to start his life all over again. But if they allowed us women to visit our men in prison then we can enjoy the conjugal rights,” she said.
This woman highlighted a scenario where a person imprisoned for five years might face challenges upon release due to relationship strain.
She suggested that enabling conjugal visits for women to see their incarcerated partners could prevent such issues.
She also mentioned that some countries permit such rights for prisoners and questioned why Kenya doesn’t follow suit.
Additionally, she appealed to the president, expressing concern about potential issues within prisons and emphasized the importance of addressing these concerns to prevent complications in relationships and alleged inappropriate activities.
