Muthee’s Inspiring Journey: Rising from Boda Boda Struggles to Owning Multiple Bikes

In 2014, Michael Muthee took a leap of faith, leaving his village to seek better opportunities in Nairobi. Settling in the Kayole estate, he entered the boda boda industry by riding someone else’s motorbike. However, he soon realized that true financial freedom came with owning his own means of transportation.
The 40-year-old shared his early challenges, highlighting the drawback of riding a bike owned by someone else. Most of his earnings were remitted to the owner leaving him financially strained. It was at this juncture that Muthee discovered a promising solution which was a symbiotic partnership with Watu Credit.
“I have so far gotten two bikes from them. The first was in 2017 when they were still new in the market,” Muthee revealed, emphasizing the pivotal moment when he transitioned from riding someone else’s bike to being a proud owner.
Owning a motorbike marked a turning point for Muthee, as he could now retain all his earnings. With the financial boost, he comfortably paid his bills, giving him the confidence to expand his business. After clearing the initial loan, he returned to Watu Credit in 2021 and acquired a second motorbike, which he successfully paid off in 2022.
Not content with personal success, Muthee has become a beacon of inspiration for fellow youths in the Boda Boda Association, rising to the position of chairman in his area. He spends his time encouraging others to take the leap of faith and own their motorbikes.
“As we speak, I’ve guaranteed about 20 young men in Kenya. Most times, it is me who gets called whenever one of them delays in payment,” Muthee shared, showcasing his commitment to empowering others in the community.
In addition to paying for his Kayole house, food, and chama bills from his second boda boda, Muthee has invested in a piece of land, demonstrating his remarkable business acumen.
Michael Muthee’s story is one of resilience, determination, and community impact. His journey from struggling in the boda boda industry to becoming a successful entrepreneur and mentor is a testament to the transformative power of financial empowerment, epitomized through his partnership with Watu Credit.
