Renowned Kenyan artist and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has recently opened up about the challenging times she has faced over the past few months.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Sunday evening, the mother of five revealed that she has been undergoing special counseling sessions with a psychologist in a bid to recover privately and restore her mental well-being.
Akothee disclosed that her ordeal began after uncovering distressing facts and unsettling information that triggered panic and immersed her in a pool of thoughts.

“I have come from a very dangerous area, and I have been recovering privately. I am in the second month of therapy following the trauma I went through after knowing the truth and the bad things that left me shaking,” shared the artist on her Facebook page.
Describing the intense emotional toll, she expressed, “Days passed without food and no sleep; I questioned and answered myself. It has been very heavy. Other days, night would become day, leaving me staring out the window at what wasn’t there. I’d find myself shaking for reasons I can’t explain, and remember I still had a job to do, a family, and a kingdom to protect. I still had to put on a bright face and entertain my fans.”
Acknowledging the support she received during this challenging period, Akothee expressed gratitude to those who stood by her, including close friends, family, and her manager, Nelly Oaks, whom she referred to as her best friend.

She shared how Nelly Oaks remained a steadfast support, ensuring her well-being, and how her children took active measures to check on her regularly.
“Nelly Oaks has been calling me fast, calling me non-stop, and she was afraid when my phone went off.
My children were fine, especially the girls; we made sure we set a timer to check if I was okay.
Rue followed me to Europe for fear of losing me, the baby sat me until I stood on my feet,” Akothee revealed.
Elaborating on her journey towards healing, Akothee discussed how she began by monitoring her behavior, realizing she was constantly overwhelmed with emotions without apparent cause.

It was through this self-awareness that she discovered the concept of emotional abuse, prompting her to seek professional treatment.
“I never knew about Emotional Abuse until I started treatment. I was in a bad state of mind that made me pay Ksh 50,000 per hour for an hour session with the first therapist. I was shaking and losing energy, appetite, sleep, fear, and even losing motivation in doing the things I liked to do,” she added.
In sharing her story, Akothee hopes to raise awareness about the impact of emotional abuse and the importance of seeking help for mental health struggles.
Her bravery in addressing these personal challenges serves as an inspiration for others facing similar battles.
