Patrick Oketch, widely recognized as Charlie, the charismatic drunkard from the popular Kenyan TV series “Mother-In-Law,” recently opened up about his decision to leave the show after an impressive twelve-year stint.

The talented thespian, known for his compelling portrayal of a stubborn drunkard entangled in rich family drama, shared his journey from destitution to stardom in an exclusive interview with Lynn Ngugi.

Charlie’s foray into the world of “Mother-In-Law” began twelve years ago as a guest star, capturing the audience’s attention with his exceptional talent.

Over time, his prowess not only secured him a permanent spot on the show but also led to him taking on the role of a writer for more than eight years.

However, behind the scenes, Charlie’s dedication extended far beyond his on-screen performances.

He played a pivotal role in the show’s production, from scouting locations to discovering new talent through interviews.

Despite these additional responsibilities, his paycheck reflected only his roles as an actor and writer, leaving his contributions unrecognized and unappreciated.

In his candid interview, Charlie revealed that his decision to part ways with “Mother-In-Law” stemmed from a desire to break free from the comfort zone he had unknowingly settled into.

Despite his significant contributions, he realized that he was dispensable, a realization that fueled his quest for personal and professional growth.

“I worked so hard for people who did not see my worth, and they never appreciated me,” Charlie lamented, shedding light on the unspoken challenges he faced.

His departure was a bold step towards reclaiming his value and seeking opportunities beyond the confines of the TV series.

Since leaving the show, Charlie expressed contentment with his decision, emphasizing that his life is now moving forward.

The departure serves as a testament to the importance of recognizing and appreciating the efforts of individuals who contribute not only on screen but also behind the scenes.

As fans speculate on the future of “Mother-In-Law” without the iconic Charlie, one thing remains clear – Patrick Oketch has embarked on a new chapter, leaving an indelible mark on Kenyan television and inspiring others to acknowledge their own worth in the pursuit of success.
