Yvonne Okwara Matole, a news anchor for Citizen TV in Kenya, is widely regarded as a top professional in her field. However, contrary to popular belief, her rise to prominence was anything but smooth sailing.
Yvonne went to Kianda High School after being born in Nairobi. She attended Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology after excelling in her national papers.

Yvonne answered a question about her first work as a waitress at a restaurant at Reinsurance Plaza for Sh150 per day in a previous Twitter Q&A session.
We started serving breakfast at 9 a.m. The clock started ticking at 7 a.m. and we had to be there promptly. As of 8 o’clock, we’re closed. Helped clean up until 10 o’clock. Only 150 kg. However, I picked up a lot of useful information. Respect the wait staff and the folks you’re interacting with! Smiling is quite effective. More money in tips!” she exclaimed.
Her first job in the media industry was hosting a children’s show on KBC. She worked for Hot 96FM and then for the Nation Media Group after that.
In 2008, she worked for the Nation Media Group as a producer for the QFM radio talk show. She also did some voice acting for the NTV business program “Money Matters.”
Before meeting her present job, Yvonne worked for Kenya Television Network (KTN) for five years after leaving Nation in 2012.
She is currently serving as the Citizen TV prime-time news anchor for Royal Media Services. In time, she rose through the ranks to become a senior news anchor and editor with responsibility for both research and strategic planning.
Yvonne has worked in radio and television for nearly 13 years, yet she has never won an award.
