According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, 1,498 people have lost their lives in Turkey (AFAD).To date, 820 people have been killed in Syria.
Due to the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck southern Turkey early on Monday, at least 2,318 people have lost their lives in both Turkey and Syria.

According to the Turkish Agency for Disaster and Emergency Management, 1,498 people have lost their lives in Turkey (AFAD).
There have been 820 fatalities in Syria thus far. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reports 430 deaths in areas under government control, while the “White Helmets,” or Syria Civil Defense, allege 390 deaths in areas under the control of the opposition.
The head of Turkey’s aid agency AFAD, Yunus Sezer, reported that 8,533 people were hurt in the country’s deadly earthquake.

Sezer claimed that there are 15,000 rescue workers in the area and that because of the weather, they are using aircraft and helicopters to reach the epicenters of the earthquakes.
The official also said that at least 2,834 structures had been damaged and that efforts were underway to ensure that residents had somewhere safe to sleep that night.
