In 2018, 100 Coconuts was founded by Gregory Lowe II, an African American entrepreneur from New York City who, after learning about the various health advantages of coconut water, decided to capitalize on the trend. At that moment in time, he made history by being the first and only Black man to own a branded coconut water company.

Coconut water is beneficial for a number of reasons, including its ability to rehydrate, its ability to control blood sugar, its ability to avoid kidney stones, and its ability to strengthen the heart. In spite of Lowe’s interest in coconut water due to its purported health benefits, he has found that commercially available brands aren’t to his liking.
When he saw that the health benefits of coconut water were being sacrificed in favor of a less palatable product, Lowe set out to develop his own brand of coconut water. In Asia, he discovered the key to his problem.
In an interview with Travel Noire, Lowe explained that he had to go all the way to the Mekong Delta province of the Ben Tre region of Vietnam, pass through Ho Chi Minh, and then head into the jungles to find the best-tasting, naturally sweeter coconuts.
“Many studies were conducted in advance to ensure the highest level of efficiency. More than two-thirds of the province’s households are involved in the coconut farming industry right now. As a result, coconut groves are abundant.”
Young, green coconuts are grown in a specific way to provide the water. After the water has been purified, it is packaged in an aluminum can, which is more effective at preserving the water’s original taste than the more common Tetra Pak. As a result, it has naturally high levels of minerals, nutrients, and electrolytes without adding any artificial sweeteners or fat. The beverage has a negligible calorie count of 50.
There have been many investors in 100 Coconuts in the short time since its founding, including former NFL star Michael Strahan. There are now more than 15,000 major retailers carrying the 100 Coconuts brand, and that number is expected to grow. Moreover, the fact that he has provided the public with a nutritious and enjoyable beverage option is what brings the greatest satisfaction to Lowe.
“I’ve lost a lot of relatives to diabetes, and it’s still a major problem in my own family. Introducing a healthier alternative to my people’s current reliance on high-fructose sugar products is very rewarding “His words.
