Politicians are among the world’s most powerful and well-known individuals. Despite this, some prominent politicians have kept their personal lives private, while others have made their spouses and children public.

Former Elgeyo Marakwet County Senator, Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, who was recently nominated as the Cabinet Secretary nominee in the Ministry of Transport, Roads, and Public Works by President William Samoei Ruto, is an example of a political leader whose wife is rarely seen in public.
Murkomen is Gladys Wanjiru Kipchumba’s husband. They’ve been married since November 12, 2009, when they exchanged vows in a beautiful wedding ceremony. Gladys was born on August 16, 1980, and will turn 41 this August.
Murkomen met the love of his life at the University of Nairobi, where they were both pursuing a Bachelor of Laws degree. He stated in a previous interview that she was the first to land a job opportunity and that she supported him as he struggled to find his footing.

“She was my classmate and although she resisted my advances at first, I eventually had a breakthrough in my second year. We dated for six years before we got married,” Murkomen once stated.
The two are blessed with 4 children, 3 sons, and one daughter. Their last born son was born in 2016.
Murkomen was declared the Senatorial winner in Elgeyo Marakwet County in the recently concluded August 9th general elections, and his wife Gladys accepted the IEBC victory certificate on his behalf.
Senator Murkomen received 141,091 votes to be re-elected. Alex Tolgos (Jubilee) received 20,684 votes in total.

Murkomen has been a close ally of President William Samoei Ruto since his election in 2013 on the URP party ticket. He was re-elected on Jubilee and UDA party tickets in the 2017 and 2022 general elections, respectively.
