Mashirima Kapombe is an award-winning bilingual reporter and anchor with 8 years of local media experience. Every Friday at 7 p.m., Mashirima hosts Nipashe wikendi, which features a fun Kiswahili language clinic dubbed “Longalonga.”

She co-hosts Longalonga with veterans Munene Nyaga and Nuhu Bakari in a lively style that includes voices from several countries.
Mashirima Kapombe’s Background
Mashirima was born on May 1, 1989, in the coastal town of Voi. Her family eventually moved to Nyeri, where she finished primary school at Consolata Primary School in Nyeri County.
After that, she attended Gatimu Gandu High School in Karatina, where she excelled in her fourth-year exams, leading her to Daystar University in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication while on school, and she graduated in 2012.

Mashirima’s Career Journey
Mashirima began her career at Daystar University as a reporter and News Reader at Shine FM, where she also served as station manager before graduating with a B.A. in Communication.
She has a background in conflict journalism and is enthusiastic about gender and children’s issues. Stories that have earned her Media Council of Kenya prizes. She won the Development Reporting Award at the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards in 2017. (AJEA).
In 2014, she won two awards: the Youth and Children Affairs award and the Gender Affairs reporting award. In 2013, she was named the Young Journalist of the Year, recognizing her as a rising star (AJEA). Mashirima was honored by her alma mater Daystar University at the Star of Excellence Awards (SOEA) Gala dinner the same year.

She has worked for several of Kenya’s largest media companies, including KBC, QFM, NTV, KTN, and Citizen Television.
