Mudavadi is a Kenyan politician from the Western region who rose to prominence after abandoning the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance and siding with President Ruto in the August 9 elections.
President William Ruto just named him as Prime Cabinet Secretary in his ministry.
Mudavadi, a seasoned politician and past presidential contender, made the discovery during his vetting as Prime Cabinet Secretary before the National Assembly Committee.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula chaired the 15-member committee during the vetting process at the national assembly.
According to reputable sources, Musalia Mudavadi stated during the meeting that he is worth Sh4 billion, with the majority of his fortune coming from assets.
“If I take my investments in shares in some companies and also the properties that I own, I will put my net worth at Sh4 billion,” he confirmed.
Mudavadi stated that his sources of revenue are his rental apartments, earnings from companies in which he has shares and interests, and other farm expenses.
Mr Mudavadi has held a number of political positions since succeeding his father Moses, who died in 1989.
During the Coalition Government of former President Mwai Kibaki and Mr Raila Odinga, he served as Deputy Prime Minister.
During the tenure of former President Moi, he also served in parliament and headed the ministries of finance and lands.
He is also the country’s shortest vice president, having served for three months under Moi in 2002.
Mudavadi will be the most senior officer in government after President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua if he is cleared by the vetting committee, as expected.
Mudavadi also cleared himself of blame in the Goldenberg scam, in which the government lost billions of shillings through gold transactions, while appearing before the vetting committee. He identified himself as the whistleblower in the controversy and the person who stopped the government’s payments.
