Miguna Miguna, a Kenyan lawyer based in Canada, has defended an online campaign to raise funds for his return flight to Kenya.
According to recent reports from a reliable source, Miguna claims that he has spent a significant amount of money trying to get back home on several instances, and that it is only fair that his supporters assist him.
“They are honest Kenyans trying to raise funds legally from those willing to give freely in order to accord me the homecoming they are planning.” He stated.
While defending his fundraising, Miguna claimed that the act was honest and associated with people of integrity.
“There is nothing dishonest about that. I only associate with people of integrity. And this is integrity,” Miguna added.
However, Miguna defended himself saying that most people would do the same if they were in his position. He futher revealed that he hed spent over $30,000 which is about KSh 3.6 Million.
“You wouldn’t say the same thing if your house was maliciously destroyed by explosives detonated by State Goons; you were tortured; illegally detained then forced out of your country of birth for five years, and you have spent more than $30,000 of your own money trying to return home,” he remarked.
On Wednesday, September 28, the outspoken lawyer announced that he would arrive in Kenya on October 20.
He has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to Kenya, four years after being deported to Canada under dubious circumstances.
Miguna’s troubles began in January 2018, following the belittle swearing-in of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga as “people’s president”
He was then deported because he was in the country illegally.
H.E. President William Ruto promised, while still Deputy President, 6 months ago that if he becomes the 5th President, exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna will be allowed to return to Kenya.
In an interview with Voice of America, Ruto stated that Miguna has committed no offense that would prevent him from returning to his homeland.
He stated that if the exiled lawyer violated the law, he should face prosecution in Kenya.
“We will return Miguna Miguna home because he is a Kenyan, he has no offence…and if he has one, he should be brought home and be charged according to the law. I do not see the need of having refugees in our country yet our own has been made a refugee in Canada.”
Miguna Maiguna attempted to return to Kenya last year, but his flight was cut short in Germany. He was denied boarding a flight to Nairobi at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Miguna holds dual citizenship in Kenya and Canada.
