Dodoma. Kilosa Member of Parliament (CCM), and former Minister of Constitution and Law Professor Palamagamba Kabudi said the Father of the Nation of Tanzania, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere was supposed to be born in Kenya, but the border agreement between the British and German colonists made him born in Tanganyika. .
Kabudi said this yesterday, while delivering a presentation at the 100th anniversary of Mwalimu Nyerere which included the launch of the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Institute.
“Nyerere was born in Tanganyika as a result of a border agreement between the German and British colonies,” said Kabudi.
The story is said to be in a book written by Dr. Heinz Schneppen, who was Germany’s ambassador to Tanzania from 1993 to 1996.
Professor Kabudi presented the book ‘Why Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania: Some reflections on the making of this country and its boundaries 1996’ and another book entitled ‘Why Tanzania is where it is: Tanzania’s colonial boundaries from the Berlin Conference 1884-1885 until its independence 1998 ‘.
“If not for the agreement, the area where Nyerere was born would have been on the Kenyan side,” he said.
