Even before Chelsea FC are done with celebrations of winning the Club World cup they have been hit with sanctions from the United Kingdom government.

The UK government has barned Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich due to the fact that he has close ties with the Russian president who has imposed attack on Ukraine. His assets have been frozen and the club barned from selling or bringing in any players. The government has also asked the UK Football Association to relegate Chelsea to the championship next season.
The sanctions state that the club can be sold provided that the money from the sale does not benefit the Russian owner.
The club has said in a letter that they will hold talks with the government and the FA to discuss the situation. This decision may result to Chelsea being deducted 9 points and this will leave the club at a position that will be difficult for them to qualify for the champions league.
As a result of the sanctions some of the club’s sponsors have cut ties with the club. Their kit sponsor ThreeUK has asked for the removal of their logo on the club’s shirt. Other sponsors such as Hyundai Trivago are also considering their contracts with the club. Also no catering services can be provided to the club by any company.
Despite all these happenings Chelsea did not hold back their fine form in the premier league when they visited Norwich City in a premier league match. Goals from T. Chalobah and M. Mount in the first half and a late goal from K. Havertz were enough to award Chelsea three points as they won by 3-1. The results cemented their third position in the league table 8 points above fourth placed Arsenal though having played two more games.
