“I am Nakanwagi Zenah aka Zenah the poet, I come from Rukiri Rubaare Ntungamo from a family of late Ramathan Muwonge. He was my unconditional love, I went to Rubaare central school in Rubaare, joined old Kampala SSS, then went to Summayya girls and finished A-level from Naalya SSS Namugongo. After that, I later went to Makerere University, I am married to a great husband Mr Mujib Kasule,” Zenah says.
Mujib and Zenah were married recently in a glitzy ceremony which captured media attention due to his prominence in football circles and her surpassing good looks, charm and graceful manner.
Beyond her love life, Zenah is a seasoned poet.
“I started writing at age 14, I remember I used my pocket money to print out a book. It was called the “Flowage of the Heart. I had written about my father’s greatness and the deep love I had for him and my brother Mr. Sendaula Bruhan who by then had taken me up,” she says.
“The book was a love story about the two (her brother and father) but when I gave it out to a few people to read, they told me it wasn’t good for even a nursery kid to read…so I burnt it with so much disappointment but because I had always wanted to write a book, I kept trying different stories but it wasn’t easy for me since I didn’t know English, I started speaking English in Senior 2.”
Zenah says her late start in speaking English was due to her lack of exposure.
“I had a little exposure to English in primary school, we mainly learnt in Kinyankore. However, when I met Mr. Serunkuma Yusuf, who literally introduced me to poetry, and I found it so interesting.”
This is when Zenah’s love story with poetry started.
“So I moved to poetry and started looking out for all poetry books, my favorite will forever be the Song of Lawino. I then decided that I wanted to write, write until I was as good as Okot p’ Bitek…he was a god!” Zenah says.
It was her big dreams which turned her into this generation’s bestselling poet, something that even Bitek would applause.
“I am the author of several books such as The Feelings, Touch of Emotions, The Naked Mind and the latest Spit My Heart, which I launched in 2018 and managed to sell over 10,000 copies mainly in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Canada, where I have been able to associate with my fellow poets,” she says.

Suddenly, due to her poetry book Spit My Heart, Zenah became a very popular poet.
Every poet planning or staging a show would consult her, since the launch of Spit My Heart was so successful that close to 500 people showed up for its launch.

“I am planning to launch a book called I am a woman, I am Love. This literally is gonna be my best ever book. I have put my heart and soul in it. And it has the shortest but deepest poems and the longest but realistic poems about death, love and pain, it aggressively addresses all the struggles of a woman and how wonderful it is that she still manages to give love,” Zenah says.
Although a bestselling poet, Zenah remains humble and this could be the secret to her matchless success.
