Trailer Ferrying Gas Cylinders Explodes On Mai Mahiu – Nairobi Highway, Several Cars Burnt

On Sunday afternoon, a trailer transporting gas cylinders exploded, closing a section of the major Nairobi-Maimahiu road.
According to witnesses, the trailer was involved in a collision around 6 a.m., but it erupted into a tremendous ball of fire and smoke during efforts to remove it from the Mutarakwa part of the road on Sunday afternoon.
According to multiple videos uploaded on social media, onlookers remained at a safe distance as the trailer smoldered, converting everything in its area to soot and ashes.

Four private cars were among those burned to ashes by the massive fire, while the actual number of people injured during the blaze is unknown.
Witnesses claim that police officials from the Mutarakwa Police Station were alerted to the event and immediately escorted motorists to safety as towing attempts began.
