Katana, a matatu conductor who was recently arrested by cops after being caught performing some dangerous acrobatics, has stated what motivated him to execute the deed.
Katana stated in a recent interview that he was a school dropout, but his enthusiasm for matatus began at a young age.
“Nikiwa mtoi, I love matatus so much, I would see matatus and ask my mum if she would ever own one. Nilikuwa napenda mathree kitu mbaya sana.”
He continued by emphasizing his fondness for matatu.
“You can’t just say I depend on matatu to earn a living. I just have this love for matatus that will never end.”
Katana claimed that, in addition to working for Matatu, he had also done Uber as a side job.
“It was also tough because of curfew at the time, so I didn’t make money coz the owner wanted his take and I also wanted mine but there was no biashara enough to make the extra money.”
Katana revealed that he had made a bet with a friend about his perilous actions. He believed that he could do something better than his colleague.
“Me and my boy we placed a bet like we unaweza? The bet was to see who hang the best, mastingo.”
Katana revealed in the video that went viral online that he placed a KSh200 bob gamble on the winner.
“Hiyo ni pesa mzuri sana for drinks after work. I was confident I would win the money. My friend did a style that left me impressed and i decided to do better.”
On their way back to town, the CBD is when they took the hype to another level. “I decided he would not win the bet and did the flip style that you see on the video. I knew he couldn’t do that move coz he is not light like me.”
He claimed that the passengers were not bothered by his antics because they were similarly pumped. He further stated that he was aware that hanging constituted an NTSA offense.
“Even if my actions were bad its not something the Government could pick from there, hatuna wira, tumesoma hapa nje lakini ni vile ..so gava uiinaweza pick something out of that but badala ya criminalize yes nilifanya blunder kwa kuhang ivo dangerous suicidal.”
He then described how the police arrested him.
“I had been in panic mode because people had been sending me these videos and I would be suspended. I had a hangover and in the morning. My friend texted me that cops were looking for me. I told him to let me get ready I meet him.”
But there was a knock on the door before he could depart. When he opened it and saw cops, he knew he was going to be arrested. He walked away with the cops.
