Originally from France, Mendy began his professional career in the Le Havre academy before joining Cherbourg of the tier-three French league in 2011.

After being dismissed in 2014, Mendy nearly gave up football until being given a chance with Marseille’s reserve team. Over the course of the subsequent seasons, he became a mainstay for both Reims and Rennes.

Mendy reportedly signed with Chelsea of the Premier League in September 2020 for a transfer price of £22 million. Soon after joining the club, he earned a starting spot in goal and made history as the first African player at any Premier League level. That first season, he recorded 16 shutouts in league play.

Mendy also helped Chelsea win their second UEFA Champions League championship by keeping a clean sheet in the final. He finished the season with nine clean sheets, which tied the record. He became the first African player in football history to win the award for best goalkeeper from both the European Football Association and the Federation Internationale de Football Association.

Although Mendy is tri-eligible to play for Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and France, he originally pledged allegiance to Guinea-Bissau in memory of his late father. However, he later switched to Senegal and was the team’s starting goalkeeper in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where Senegal finished in second place.

His team won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, and he was voted the tournament’s top goalie for his efforts in maintaining a clean sheet in the championship game.

Nizaar Kinsella reports that Edouard Mendy has rejected Chelsea’s most recent contract offer.

New conditions were given to him by the Blues, but he would still be paid less than Kepa.

The Senegalese person is aiming to get more money than the Spaniard, or at least the same amount.

Chelsea did not offer him a higher salary because they do not wish to pay for two starting goalkeepers.

The weekly salaries of Kepa and Mendy are reportedly £145,000 and £52,000, respectively.
