Concern over Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu getting married at her current ‘old’ age surfaced when Kenya Kwanza presidential contender William Ruto described her as being too old to have marriage bonds with a husband.
During the Kenya Kwanza campaign rallies in Kitui on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, Ruto confused Charity Ngilu by claiming she was too old to get married. “Huyo Mama Mzee nani anaweza muoa?” Ruto made the remarks while campaigning for the presidency in Kitui.

The second in command’s attempt to gain political advantage by releasing personal missiles on the opposition is repulsive, even if it is during the campaign season.
Michael Mwendwa Ngilu, the husband of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, died in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2006, at the age of 63.
He is known as Michael Mwendwa. The news of Ngilu’s death came as a shock to the Ngilu family. Even after the death of her pillar of strength, spouse, the iron lady made sure that her children were successful.

Peter Mwendwa, the family lawyer, was later sacked by Ngilu when he tried to find holes in the family fortune left by Mr. Ngilu.
When Charity Ngilu was elected as an MP for Kitui Central in 1992, her ambitions grew to include a bid for the presidency of Kenya.
“My hubby was there for me every step of the way. As far as he was concerned, I was the best Member of Parliament. I miss him and am sad that he is no longer with me as the governor and can’t accompany me on this journey “Charitable Ngilu told the Nation on November 27th of this year.
That’s why when a presidential candidate of this caliber launches personal attacks on Charity Ngilu, it begs the question of political tolerance and etiquette in the political arena.
