Othaya is in grief once more with the passing of Esther Waitherero, the sister of the late president Kibaki.
At 115 years old, she was the last surviving member of Kibaki’s extended family.

When President Kibaki was a child, Waitherero took on the role of a mother to him, shaping him into the person he would become.
Waitherero has spoken out about how the death of former president Kibaki in April has affected her, comparing it to the loss of her younger brother.
The elderly woman from the modest home in Gatuya-Ini, Nyeri county, expressed regret at the prospect of never seeing her grandson again.

“After losing my two sisters and five brothers, I feel like an orphan. There’s a chance no one knows this, but when my brother died, it really hit me hard. It’s unfortunate that we won’t be in touch again “The gloomy old man put it this way.
Her son Tony Githinji broke the news of his brother’s death to her. She deserves to be at peace now, and our deepest sympathies go out to her loved ones.
