Modern-day evangelism and churches are awash with all theatrics meant to snooker non-observant worshippers into believing in their miracles for quick hope and panacea to their earthly problems.
The advent of capitalism has made life quite difficult, understandably so. Mostly, humans are controlled by market forces. With the high rate of unemployment, poverty among other challenges facing humanity today, some Men of God have come up with ways to get money out of unsuspecting worshippers.
The questions of which church to attend, where to do fellowship, which congregation to join then become the utmost important tool of engagement when one moves to a new environment.
Churches to avoid
Perhaps you’re a new convert and you’re looking for a place to grow spiritually, it’s imperative to know that places of worship are meant to help you develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and not anything other than that. Don’t forget; you’re the Church and you only need a place to fellowship. And this fellowship must be guided by the basics of salvation Churches with no spiritual doctrines
Avoid any church that exalts a specific doctrine apart from repentance, faith, justification, regeneration, grace and holy living. When Jesus came, He came as the only way to Heaven and God.
Jesus answered: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me; John 14:6.
Before the Cross and in the Old Testament, men reached God through other mediums, through specific men of God appointed in those days.
“In the past, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” Hebrew 1:1-2.
You don’t need a medium or somebody to stand between you and God. You don’t need special prayer equipment or tool for God to hear your prayers and answer you. You don’t need candles, prayer books, rosaries, rings, specific coloured clothes or even incense.
All you need is faith. As long as you believe that Jesus is who He says He is, everything needful for your well-being will be freely given to you. Faith is the currency of heaven.
Entrepreneurship driven churches
Avoid any church that exalts giving, tithing, and specific observances to tap blessings from God.
There is nothing a man can do to make God love him better. He loved you best when He gave His son Jesus to die for you. The beautiful exchange you can give is to respond to that love by believing in Jesus. You can’t win God’s favour by sacrifice in the place of obedience. God values obedience to sacrifice.
Be careful of religious criminals. Give out of love, compelled by passion and not under influence of carefully chosen persuasive words.
“I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.” Hosea 6:6
If we’re set to obey Old Testament law, then we have to do it entirely. That is what fulfils the law. Complete obedience to its demands. Grace has set us free because we’re under new management, and that is Jesus.
