Regardless of your political affiliation, we can all agree that Deputy President HE William Ruto has earned a reputation as a fighter via his never-say-die mentality.Kenyans have a soft spot for combatants. Regardless of the conflict, the individual who overcomes overwhelming obstacles is often considered a hero. Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto used their ICC arraignment as an anti-imperialist platform in the run-up to the 2013 election, outsmarting their opponents.
Here are the reasons why I believe Ruto will be Kenya’s fifth President.
1) Uhuru’s Betrayal
Despite his boss’s clear betrayal, Ruto keeps his head high. In a selective war on graft, Uhuru has effectively booted him out of government and the ruling party, as well as driven some of his supporters out of parliamentary leadership. Ruto’s resistance to yield under duress will be advantageous to him.
2 Hustler Narrative
Kenyans, particularly the youth, were promised heaven by the Jubilee government. Instead, it delivered ‘hell’. Ruto has distanced himself from the government and turned to philanthropy to help unemployed youths (hustlers). The “dynasties,” on the other hand, seem unconcerned about Kenyans’ suffering as they strike backroom agreements to maintain power and amass more wealth.
3 Benefits Of Incumbency
Despite being ostracized by Uhuru, Ruto is the second most powerful insider in the present government, compared to his generally ineffective challengers. He revels in the trappings of power and the benefits of being in power. He is well-versed in the workings of the system, and he will almost certainly utilize this information to his political advantage.
4 His Close Relationship with the Church
Ruto is a devout Christian who attends church on a regular basis. He has concentrated his philanthropy on raising funding for churches because it makes strategic sense. Nearly every day, church leaders send delegations to his Karen and Sugoi homes. Kenya is a Christian-majority country with significant political clout and may likely vote in his favour.
5 RAILA’S SUPPORTER BETRAYAL
Raila’s reputation was ruined by the handshake. Following his boycott of the 2017 presidential election, his millions of supporters called for nothing less than a revolution. Raila was sworn in as “people’s president” on January 30, 2018, with that goal in mind. Except for the few insiders, the handshake was a terrible betrayal that crippled his support base. Ruto will try to take advantage of Raila’s dissenters.
