‘I became a street kid after my uncle tried to rape me,’ Kibibi alias Getrude Mwita

Celebrated actress Getrude Mwita also known as Kibibi has narrated how her uncle almost succeeded in raping her.
At the time Mwita was living with her uncle alongside some other relatives. Speaking during an interview with Ayo TV, Mwita says her family chose to believe her uncle and punished her for ‘lying’.

‘There was another child who had come to live with my uncle and he tried to rape her as well. In 2003 we decided we could not take it anymore so we ran away.
We got arrested as we were kids, when asked why we ran away we said my uncle had tried to rape us. There was my sister called Rehema who had seen what my uncle had tried to do to me.

“But she later left the house. When they called her to confirm if what I was saying was true, she told them nothing of that nature happened.
We were living with my uncle when one night he came to our room and took me saying he was taking me to pee. No one supported me, everyone thought I was lying, I would be beaten at every little chance they got. A certain house help called Esther helped me run away.”
Mwita has since moved on but says that experience and the mistreatment at the hands of the people she thought would protect her hurts.
