Nairobi county Senator Hon Edwin Sifuna has weighed in on Chief Justice Martha Koome’s recent public address in response to President William Ruto’s contentious criticisms of the Judiciary.

Sifuna, breaking his silence, offers advice on how Koome should navigate the escalating situation.

In a statement through his X platform, Senator Sifuna emphasizes that if the onslaught against the Judiciary persists, Koome should boldly declare that judges will promptly cease all proceedings involving National Government Institutions.

This assertive stance, according to Sifuna, aims to convey a clear message to President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza team about the gravity of their actions.

Additionally, Sifuna suggests that Chief Justice Koome should announce that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will refuse to entertain cases from National Government institutions or any pending or future filings.

This move, as proposed by Sifuna, is intended to send a strong signal that the Judiciary will not tolerate unwarranted attacks on its integrity and independence.

Sifuna, through his advice, underscores the importance of proactive measures to shield the Judiciary and its judicial officers from external pressures.

He contends that simply reacting to the executive’s criticisms is not enough; Koome must take decisive steps to safeguard the institution’s autonomy.

The Senator urges Chief Justice Koome not to be a passive observer in the face of relentless attacks on the Judiciary.

According to Sifuna, Koome must establish a robust framework to ensure the protection of the Judiciary and its personnel.

He asserts that defending the institution goes beyond addressing specific accusations but requires a comprehensive strategy to uphold its constitutional role.

In his concluding remarks, Sifuna emphasizes the need for Chief Justice Koome to “protect her people.”

This call to action suggests a broader responsibility for Koome in safeguarding not only the institution but also the interests and well-being of those working within the Judiciary.

As the political tension surrounding the Judiciary continues to escalate, Senator Sifuna’s advice to Chief Justice Koome serves as a strategic roadmap for navigating these turbulent times.

It underscores the imperative for the Judiciary to assert its independence and protect its members in the face of external challenges.

Chief Justice Koome’s next public address will likely be closely scrutinized, as the nation awaits to see how she responds to these recommendations in the ongoing clash between the executive and the Judiciary.
