Reverend Elizabeth Mokoro, a prominent Seventh-Day Adventist, has stirred controversy by counseling women to persevere in their marriages, even in the face of challenges such as the presence of mistresses or girlfriends.
The pastor’s remarks have sparked a heated online debate, drawing both support and criticism from social media users.
Reverend Mokoro emphasized that the existence of a third party, be it a mistress or a ‘mpango wa kando,’ should not nullify the spiritual covenant within a marriage.
Despite facing backlash from online communities, she urged women not to hastily exit their marriages based on rumors or the discovery of another woman.

“Don’t jump out of your marriage because you have heard there is some girl somewhere; that is what the devil wants you to do, to walk away. Many have walked away,” she asserted, defending her unconventional stance.
The controversial pastor went further, suggesting that a woman having a rival is an indication of a valuable and desirable husband.
She stated, “If you have a man with whom you have no rival, then you have a useless man. Kitu kizuri kinapiganiwa (good things are fought for); no woman takes a man because they are well dressed, there is something the other woman has seen.”
Reverend Mokoro’s advice didn’t stop there. She urged women to actively care for their husbands to prevent them from being “snatched away” by others.
According to her, neglecting a husband could make him vulnerable to advances from other women.
“You just sit in the house, and look at him like your brother or a child because you went to school; you don’t even respect your husband. There is someone somewhere who will snatch him away from you,” she cautioned, advocating for a proactive approach to maintaining marital bonds.
However, these statements have not been without criticism.
Social media users expressed their discontent, with some interpreting the pastor’s advice as encouraging marital infidelity.
Others questioned the appropriateness of such guidance, calling for a more nuanced understanding of relationships.
In response to the controversy, netizens took to various platforms to voice their opinions.
While some questioned the alignment of the advice with Christian principles, others praised Reverend Mokoro for addressing what they perceive as a harsh reality in relationships.
As discussions unfold, it remains to be seen how Reverend Mokoro’s unconventional advice will impact societal perspectives on marriage and fidelity.
The online debate highlights the diverse opinions on this sensitive topic, challenging traditional views on relationships within the context of modern society.
