Earlier Today the High Court has declared the Huduma Number Roll out illegal due to being in conflict with the data protection Act 2019.The Data protection Act Section 31 of 2019 requires data processing to be preceeded by a data protection impact assessment to any data.
Justice Jairus Ngaah announced out that the assessment of Huduma Number Roll out was not done before the rolling out.
The ruling came out just after Katiba Institute sued the Interior Ministry due to lack of safeguards that had been given to assure Kenyans that their data will not be abused or their personal information misused.
Despite the ruling, the interior ministry has been given an opportunity to regularise the roll out.
Cyrus Oguna, the government’s spokesperson announced out that 11.2 Million Huduma Cards have been processed but only 6.5 Million have been collected.
